Siniya Become Champions again – Kabale District Ball Games 2022

Nurturing Talent is just a drop in the ocean of the awesome things the Boy Child gains by joining #TheOnlySiniya Kigezi College Butobere.

Every year, districts In Uganda under the umbrella body, Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda – ASSHU organise Ball Games II at District Level where the finalists aren’t just awarded trophies, but also get a chance to advance to the Regional Level until the successful teams eventually make it to the National Ball Games II Competitions that are organized by Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association – USSSA. Successful teams at National Level also go ahead to participate in the East African Level.

Since 2017, Kigezi College Butobere, better and fondly known as Siniya has won the Volleyball competition back to back. It would be safe to say that Kigezi College Butobere should automatically represent Kabale District without participating in the competition because it is simply no match to the rest of the schools in this particular sport.

On Friday 17th June 2022, ASSHU Kabale District Ball Games II we’re held at NTC Kabale. Ndorwa, St. Maria Goretti and Kamuganguzi were some of the teams that participated in the group that had Kigezi College Butobere. They all received the expected thrashing with straight sets until the Final against St. Mary’s College, Rushoroza who leveraged the presence of their students support to pull off a 1:1 draw before it got too dark to allow the third set to be played the same evening. The winner was therefore to be decided the following day after a rematch on Saturday 18th June 2022 at 09:00 hrs.

The Saturday eventually dawned on the hills of Kabale and we no doubt had to see a Volleyball Champion after proving themselves on the court for the Award of the Trophy 🏆. With other schools (if any) playing spectator, the adrenalin rush was at its peak for St. Mary’s who had invested heavily in sports after the Covid19 lockdown and didn’t want to believe the expected would happen again after the draw the previous day had raised their hopes of maybe, just maybe, dethroning The Only Siniya Kigezi College Butobere of it’s crown.

For some reason, the rematch was delayed until 11:00 hrs when the two finalists eventually restarted the game. High Hopes from the St. Mary’s and the Victorious Spirit from the Siniya team were evident on the court. Not even the spectators at that moment were sure of the outcome given the investment the hosts had injected in their department to get this trophy their way.

The first set was, to everyone’s dismay, won 25:14 in favour of St. Mary’s College Rushoroza. At this moment, word on the court was that “It is coming home”.

This, though, didn’t last as the second set was so intense that St. Mary’s couldn’t believe they let it go 22:25 yet they were only a set to clinching the much awaited accolade.

The game was to be decided in the third set at this point. The two finalists, with new found hope, were ready to take it home in this last set. Unfortunately, St. Mary’s were humiliated by the invincible Kigezi College Butobere lads as they were given a beating they will wish to forget. 12:25 it ended in favour of The Only Siniya.

FINAL: St. Mary’s College Rushoroza Vs Kigezi College Butobere (Siniya)
